It’s finally wintertime in Texas!  Yeah!  It’s sweater weather and then some.  Oh yes, the thermometer has fallen under 35 degrees for all of today and it’s going to get below freezing tonight!

You may be asking yourself why on earth am I so excited that it’s going to freeze.  Well, there are basically 2 answers to this question.  1) Freezing weather helps to kill off those pesky mosquitoes.  However, one night of freezing weather won’t do it, we’d have to have it freeze for like a month to do any good and honestly, if it did freeze for that long, I think the city would shut down and anarchy would take over.  2) Getting cold, freezing if you will, finally shows us that there is more than 2 seasons here in Texas.  It’s usually Summer and almost Summer, you know, not quite Spring because it’s hot and not quite Fall, because it’s hot.

And while I know that while it may be freezing tonight, in 2 days it’s going to be 80 degrees again (you’d think that I was joking, but I’m not).  Flash Freezes like this give each Texas child a moment to wish for the elusive “snow day” that we see in movies and on TV.  This wouldn’t do any good this time, since today is Friday, but it’s still an opportunity to dream of the fluffy white stuff that we hardly ever see.

So put up your tea pot today and pull out the chocolate pot – this is the one time a year when your cuppa isn’t enough.
