Prompt: Do you prefer taking risks or having a safety net?
The answer to this question is that it depends on the circumstance. I would not consider myself “fearless” or a safety freak, but I think that you can have both with moderation. Here, let me explain.
Financially, I’d rather have a safety net than risk it. An example: I enjoy going to Vegas, and I will play the slots, but only the penny ones and I have no problem getting up and walking away. Honestly, I’d rather go shopping than waste the money on slots.
When it comes to my kids, yeah, it’s safe all the way; going the speed limit, making complete stops when required, no expired foods, only giving medication when absolutely needed, finding good doctors for them to see – ya know, that kind of thing. But if it’s just me? It’s speeding, California stops and raw cookie dough all the way! I’m good with trying something new, but change can be hard for me to accept. I’m not anti-risk, nor pro-risk… life can get monotonous and boring at times, so shaking it up isn’t necessarily bad.
So, I’ll ride that rollercoaster, dragging at least one of my boys on it with me (usually the oldest), I’ll try that new food (within reason), I’ll ride in a car with a 15 year-old who’s learning to drive, and you may be able to talk me into going in water that I can’t see through, but I won’t do anything that means I jump or fall out of a plane. That’s just crazy. And if my kids ask, NOPE is the answer to that question. If God wanted me to fly, we would have given me wings.
If I have to go back an answer this question with a yes or a no: do you prefer taking risks or having a safety net? The answer would be, “yes”.
