Prompt:  What stupid questions have you heard someone ask (or asked yourself)?

Oh joy! Yet another way that I get to embarrass myself!

The most recent event that I have made an jackass out of myself was at the memorial of a young man that we had Scouted with whom we have remained friends with outside of Scouting.  There was  a sudden and unexpected tragedy and when at the memorial, this is no lie and an absolute cringe-worthy statement, I asked the brother of the young man we were there for, “How are you doing?”  I saw the words come out of my mouth and I was horrified.  How do you expect someone to answer that?  Holy Cow Linda, what were you thinking?  I told this to one of my good friends who was also there and I really wish she would have slapped me.  Take my advice, in the absence of knowing what to say to someone, just don’t say anything.  Or just say “I’m sorry” and move on.

And that happened more recently.  It happens more often than not with me.  It’s not that I’m unintelligent.  It’s just that I can’t always articulate what I am trying to say and good, normal, meaningful words are removed from my vocabulary in an instant.  I am left with SpongeBob running around in my head looking in  filing cabinets for the right words (link here if you’ve not seen it). SpongeBob sucks at that job and often lets me down.  I’ve tried to fire him, but darn it, he keeps sneaking back in.

Please tell me that I am not the only one and that you’ve made stupid statements before.  Please.
