Prompt:  If you had been able to choose, would you rather have been an only child or part of a very large family?

Well that’s interesting.  It’s either you alone or a very large family.   What makes a very large family, I wonder?    I have one sister.  She is 6 years older than I am, so it’s kinda like I was an only child for a time when I was a teenager.  It doesn’t really count though, since she was there while I was growing up.   I’ve seen large families, 7+ kids… the older ones help to care for the younger ones; they all seem happy and well adjusted.   One of my Sisters-In-Laws has 5 children – is that considered a “very large family”?

I would think that if your family is 6 or more, it would since when you go out to dinner, the gratuity would already be added to your check…  That’s a reasonable thought, I think, so I’m going to go with that.

Would I prefer to be an only child or have 4 brothers/sisters?  Hummm….   I’d go with a big family.  Seriously.   Most of the only children I have met in my life have not always been pleasant or they have hang ups that stems from being alone with adults and not other kids for a chunk of their lives.  Conversely,  if you have siblings, you understand sharing, giving and compromise a lot better than only children.

There is NO scientific data to back this up, this is MY PERSONAL OPINION and mine only, based on MY experiences growing up, having friends and working in a doctor’s office for 20 + years.

I’m curious what you think about this prompt.  Would you rather have many siblings or be an only child?  And what’s your logic behind it?
