Oh, the joys of a cooking day!  The sun is out, the forecast shows no rain for at least 24 hours (maybe more).  I love a good cooking day!  It’s like Christmas any time when you open up the kiln to see the amazing goodies after they are fired.

Today, however, I was not joyful after opening up the lid.

Since I started using a kiln to fired the pieces I paint, I have over fired a few times, but I have never under fired any.  This was a first for me.  The pieces looked so sad, so pale and so… yucky.  It appears that it was human error (i.e. I messed up).  So the pieces were re stacked, a new cone was added and the dials turned to  start it all up again.

I have no idea what’s going to happen.  I’ve never tried to re-fire pieces like this before.  So as much as it sucks to have to figure out that I messed it up, it’s still kinda exciting to try something new.   I would still call it a disaster though.  It wasn’t what I was expecting and the pieces were freaky looking.  Cross your fingers for a great 2nd firing.

You know I’ll keep you posted.
