In a pinch, if you run out of creamer, 1/2 & 1/2, or milk, you can, in fact, use butter (not margarine) in your tea as a creamer. I’ve done it. It will get you by in a pinch, just as I’ve stated. Is it good? Hummm, I guess that’s more of a “how much do you like butter” and if you need the extra fat and calories in your diet. Personally, after having it, and finishing said cuppa, I have chosen to go without creamer instead of ever doing that again. If I wanted the extra fat/calories, I’d just as well dunk a piece of bacon in my cuppa and be done with it.
When I work on the potterys wheel, I do so outside in my gazebo. This time of year, the weather is lovely in Texas, and I am enjoying being outside with the dogs, squirrels, rabbits, snakes, spiders and other strange creatures that I can’t see (thankfully). BUT, I will say that drinking your morning cuppa with a big dollop of clay is not the best thing to have. At least the butter gives your cuppa a sense of being proper – the clay, well, it just makes it murky…and bitter, and a bit, okay not a bit, a bunch, just gross. And while is not freezing or chilly right now, it is much cooler than usual, so it also makes it cool down much quicker. Imagine that you each over to have a sip of your cuppa, and it’s cold, bitter and tastes like the clay smells, earthy. Not the best thing first thing in the morning.
I am reminded of a couple of my favorite scenes from Cabin Pressure, the Wokingham episode where Martin is making his mum a cuppa after she’s been in hospital, “already being made tea, however it comes, in a chipped mug, just the way you like it”. Or the St. Petersburg episode, “Here you are Skip, a nice hot cup of coffee”, “oh! It’s cold!”, “nice cup of coffee.”, “it’s horrible!”, “cup of coffee”, “I’m not even sure it is coffee”, “cup”. If you have not Had the opportunity to listen (or hear) Cabin Pressure, I would highly recommend it.
Ah, the joy of tea. A good cuppa can make all the difference in your day. Just not with butter or clay in it. Trust me on this one.
